Well if my blog is in fact destined to wither away to just "blurbs about things I love", then let it noted that I love thinking about past lives.
Now I'm not entirely sure I believe that past lives are even real or if we just wish we had lived in certain time periods but I'm positive that at this point I have enough evidence to prove that I was once a Plantation Owner...'s wife.
Before you get to excited let me make it very clear that this is in no way some repressed feel of mistaken gender. I just feel that I have a little bit too much understanding for the plight of Scarlett O'Hara. There's of course a lot of love.
Obvious things to love about the old south:
-Hoop Skirts
-Gentry
-Hats
-Fancy social gatherings
-High Society
And I'm not forgetting the problems that ol' dixie had either.
Obvious things to not love about the old south:
-no AC
-Bumpy roads and carriages
-Slavery
-A general lack of tolerance
But I must confess that as long as I can remember I've always felt a little sad for plantation owners of the old south and their dramatic change in life style circa 1864. Of course I believe that what happened needed to happen to end slavery and begin a slow but steady tolerance of ethnicity in America, but still not EVERY plantation owner could have been a bad one. The earliest memory of this hidden sympathy was a 3rd grade visit to the Huntington Library. It was this fantastic painting of a southern woman burning her crops of cotton so that the north wouldn't be able to use them. I dunno it just made me sad.
So past lives. I don't know if I believe in them or not but they are fun to think about.
